Transfer to Another US School
You may transfer to another US school, while still maintaining the same SEVIS record and F-1 status. FSU must release your SEVIS record and transfer it electronically to the school of your choice. Your SEVIS record can only be transferred to ONE school, so you must decide which school you will attend before requesting a transfer. The day of this electronic transfer is called the “SEVIS transfer release date.”
In order to request a transfer of your SEVIS record, you must complete the FSU SEVIS Transfer Out Form and provide proof of your admission to your new school. Be sure that you inform your new school that you are currently in F-1 status with FSU, and check if your new school will require your FSU IC Advisor to complete any information about your immigration record. (It is common for schools to require a “Transfer-In” form.
The SEVIS transfer process is fairly simple, but does follow some important rules:
- Your SEVIS record can only be transferred to 1 school at a time. Be sure you have made your final selection before requesting transfer.
- You must be fully admitted to another school before FSU can transfer your SEVIS record. (Remember- you will need to provide us with proof of youradmission!)
- FSU will generally only release your record to your new school at the END of the semester, or at anytime during the summer if you are not enrolled full time. (This does not apply to students on OPT.)
- You must be able to enroll and begin classes at your new school in the next available term at your new school, or within 5 months of your SEVIS “release date” - whichever date occurs first.
- If you have graduated, or you have completed your OPT your SEVIS record must be released BEFORE the end of your 60-day grace period.
